Thrive
Thrive helps us to check children’s readiness to learn, to identify any gaps and then plan to meet them. Through doing so, we will be able to make sure that all of our pupils have what they need to make the best possible progress in their learning
What does it take to develop healthy, happy, confident children who are ready and open to learning? Recent advances in neuroscience, attachment theory and child development have provided some of the answers to this question.
The Thrive Approach draws on insights from these fields to provide a powerful way of working with children and young people that supports optimal social and emotional development. In addition, the Approach can equip you to work in a targeted way with children and young people who may have struggled with difficult life events to help them re-engage with life and learning.
CRUSH

We offer 1:1, 55-minute counselling sessions which can help children with issues such as: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, anger management, family conflict and bereavement. Counselling provides a safe, warm, and encouraging space for helping children to heal and process whatever may be happening in their lives.
A drop-in service is also run Monday, Wednesday to Fridays during lunch hours to give all children an opportunity to have a safe space to talk to someone, without needing an appointment.
Art Therapy
We have trained Trauma Informed School practitioners (TIS practitioners) who have a Diploma in Trauma and Mental Health. These members of staff use scientific research techniques, such as PACE (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy) to deliver art therapy interventions. When the right side of the brain is engaged with creative tasks, it makes the left side easier to access and emotions can be explored and empathised with. Support and interventions include:
- Big empathy drawings
- Research on biophilia for outdoor exploration work
- Creative activities around emotions such as sand play
- Attachment play 1:1 or in small groups
- Talk therapy where appropriate
The TIS art therapy work compliments the work in Thrive and is an additional layer for students who may be working at age related development but are still struggling with blocked emotional responses or require an emotionally available adult to validate their feelings. Interventions are conducted within The Canopy (TGAWs inclusion space) and strategies and techniques are shared whole school to support relationships with peers and classroom teachers.
Educational Psychologist
We have an Educational Psychologist that works at Tudor Grange Worcester. They complete assessments with students that may be showing challenging behaviour or in need of a dyslexia diagnosis.
